Who is this workshop for?

  • Ages 18+
  • This workshop is for participants who have already tried linocut and are comfortable using lino-cutting tools safely. It is ideal if you have attended a beginner linocut workshop or have some experience of carving and printing independently.

The focus is on working with your own design rather than learning the basics of linocut printmaking.

Workshop content:

  1. Develop your design: discuss your ideas and consider how to adapt your design for single-block linocut printing.
  2. Prepare your artwork: work out how to transfer your design onto your lino block, taking into account positive and negative space, contrast and the areas to be carved.
  3. Carve your lino block with personalised advice on carving techniques, marks and textures.
  4. Explore inking and printing: learn how to achieve the best results from your block.
  5. Print your design: make a small edition of your own linocut with a small craft press
  6. Wrapping your prints so you can take them home safely

FAQ’s

What will I need to bring?

All materials are provided for the workshop (one linocut block, cutting and inking tools)

Please bring:

  • Your own design is the starting point for this workshop.

Please bring a design or idea that you would like to develop into a linocut print. This could be your own drawing, a sketch, or a reference image that you would like to interpret in your own way.

It’s helpful to think about your design in advance, but it doesn’t need to be completely finished. We can discuss how to adapt it to work well as a linocut. If you’re unsure whether your design is suitable for linocut, feel free to get in touch before the workshop.

  • Old clothes to wear that you don’t mind getting a bit messy.
